Thankful group

To the editor:

The Lawrence community again has come forward to help feed hungry people, this time with a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner for the homebound, the homeless, low-income and those seeking someone to share a holiday meal.

The Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen fed 395 people on Thanksgiving, half of them homebound and unable to share meals with friends and family. The other half dined in the kitchen in the basement of the First Christian Church, 10th and Kentucky.

LINK thanks everyone who helped with this endeavor: about 500 volunteers who made dressing, mashed potatoes and about 75 pies, Chris Jones and the Hereford House for roasting 32 succulent turkeys, HyVee and Dillon’s grocery stores, for donating gallons and gallons of coleslaw, Checkers for their consistent year-round help with grocery prices, and individuals who contributed cash to help fund the turkeys and other necessary purchases. About 44 volunteer drivers delivered meals.

LINK also thanks a dedicated group of guests and volunteers for all their work in cleaning, making tea and coffee, mopping, and otherwise making sure the Thanksgiving dinner was enjoyed by all, and the local news media for putting out the word that volunteers were needed and a meal available.

Thanks for the giving everyone!
