Deadly toxins

To the editor:

Secondhand smoke causes cancer. That’s because cigarette smoke contains literally dozens of carcinogenic chemicals. The recent suggestion that the city should relax the smoking ban to permit smoking in bars but monitor the level of nicotine would still leave many carcinogens in the air. The result would still be cancer.

Knowingly exposing workers to deadly toxins — whether in restaurants or in factories — is wrong. The city is right to protect bar and restaurant workers from unwanted exposure to cancer-causing chemicals.
