Free of smoke

To the editor:

I have lived in Lawrence since 1957 and have seen many changes over the years. I am now a retiree and, recently, my friend and I took a little vacation to Branson, Mo.

We were surprised to have to go into a restaurant there and tell them that we wanted the nonsmoking area to eat in after becoming accustomed to nonsmoking restaurants in Lawrence. I am happy that my children and grandchildren will enjoy the freedom from indoor smoke in Lawrence.

When I was their age, we didn’t know how dangerous indoor smoke was, and now we know. I am pleased to know that other countries are going smoke-free in their restaurants and bars.
