Liberal definition

To the editor:

Marilyn Woodward’s letter on liberals misses a few points. First, that dictionaries aren’t immutable; they record definitions the speakers of a language have assigned to a word. Second, the word “liberal” now connotes secularists, elitists and persons who are intolerant of those of us who do not agree with them.

When a school board can remove the Declaration of Independence from a teacher’s study materials because it mentions God, I see liberals in action. People who are smarter than the rest of us who must act to prevent us from the consequences of our stupidity.

If I were a politician, I would avoid the liberal label as long as I could.
