Genes or sales?

To the editor:

Dean Hamer is presenting another questionable theory (J-W, Nov. 27). This time it is the spirituality gene.

This is the same person who presented a theory that homosexuality is genetic. His findings were investigated by the Office of Research Integrity in the Department of Health and Services (Science Journal) when a colleague reported to the Chicago Tribune that Hamer skewed his findings to come to that conclusion.

Other scientists in the United States and Canada used Hamer’s research data and found no evidence that being homosexual is genetic.

It is unfortunate so may people have believed Hamer’s writings.

Could it be Dean Hamer has come along with the spirituality gene theory because he has a book to sell?
