To the editor:

First of all I want you to know that I have grown up around guns. My grandpa is a gunsmith, my stepfather is a gun collector and I even have an assortment of firearms myself. One thing that really bothers me is that guns are considered “weapons.” The true definition of a weapon is: An instrument of attack or defense in combat. That leads to the fact a gun is only a firearm until used otherwise. Which leads to the saying, “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.”

Concealed guns are in fact weapons, but they are only weapons of defense. I personally think concealed weapons should be legal in every state. However, concealed carry should require a license. A license should require a clean background and a reason for carrying.

The only thing preventing legalization of concealed weapons is people who don’t know much about what they are banning. You should never criticize or doubt something you know nothing about. Should a racist judge a man by his cover without looking deeper? It’s just like saying sushi tastes gross when you have never tasted it.

Anyway, racists and sushi are beside the point. What I am saying is people who have never fired a gun in their life should not automatically ban concealed weapons. If someone had intentions to kill, they would do it anyway, law or no law.
