Sore winner?

To the editor:

If tantrums are what you like it should be an entertaining four years with Jere McElhaney continuing on the County Commission. Politics in Douglas County reached a new low with McElhaney’s unfounded accusations of “political payoff” (J-W, Tuesday). Hmm, sounds like Jere thinks someone else knows how to work the “good ol’ boy” network.

No matter which candidate you voted for, you and the rest of the citizens deserve far better than the juvenile display we witnessed of a county commissioner trying to interfere with a city appointment to the Planning Commission. The future of Douglas County needs to be in the hands of rational, reasonable, thoughtful individuals who have the ability and the will to foster cooperation among all the county’s communities, and can look beyond their own personal agendas to do so. We’ll clearly have to look to the other two county commissioners for that kind of behavior.

Thanks to Mike Rundle and the City Commission there will be another rational, reasonable, thoughtful individual on the Planning Commission to help guide us into the future.

Sue Young,
