Slow it down

To the editor:

As a resident of Lawrence since December 1983, I feel I have “ownership” here. So many good things have happened in Lawrence since I arrived and the town has become a city, at least in my opinion. I believe Lawrence will continue to grow and good things will continue to happen.

My concerns today are with the drivers in this fair city, especially in residential areas. When I learned to drive, back in the good old ’60s, the law stated that if you have an obstacle in your path, a car for instance, you were to yield to traffic approaching from the opposite direction. That has not been the norm in this city for at least two years! I am sick and tired of people being in such a dang big hurry that not only are these drivers speeding on residential streets, they are “hogging” the road when they, by law, should be yielding to oncoming traffic. These drivers don’t even hesitate if traffic is approaching and there is a vehicle in their way!

Life is too short and there is no need to be in such a big hurry.
