Police arrest Lawrence man in connection with credit union robbery
Lawrence Police made an arrest in connection with the Friday robbery of a Northern Lawrence credit union.
Police arrested a 36-year-old Lawrence man in a strip mall parking lot in front of Wendy’s near Sixth Street and Kasold Drive around 11:30 p.m. Friday.
Earlier Friday morning around 11:30 a.m., police said a white male in his 20’s, possibly armed with a gun, walked into the Midwest Regional Credit Union on 1015 West Sixth St. and demanded cash from a teller.
The suspect left the credit union southbound, on foot, with an undisclosed amount of money.
In a statement released early Saturday, Lawrence Police said they developed a suspect through the course of their investigation and arrested the man.
The statement went on to say that the suspect was to be booked into the Douglas County Jail on one count of aggravated robbery.
It is generally the policy of 6News and the Lawrence Journal-World not to identify suspects in police custody until they are charged with a crime.
Police have notified the FBI and are directing questions regarding the robbery to the Kansas City field office.
