Justice, morality

To the editor:

In the Nov. 13 Faith Forum, the question is asked: “Which is more important to your set of values: personal morality or social justice?” The question is misleading. If you take seriously the worth and dignity of human beings (including yourself) and you think through the implications of that, then you will arrive at both a personal morality and a view of social justice worth having. If you don’t, then you will arrive at neither.

To put the same point another way. Both personal morality and social justice are corollaries of something more fundamental.
