KU forum to discuss Ukraine conflict

Kansas University’s Center for Russian and East European Studies will host a one-hour discussion on events in Ukraine at 3:30 p.m. today in Room 318 in Bailey Hall.

Speakers will include:

  • Ivan Bekhta and Lyubomyr Skochylyas, visiting scholars from Ukraine.
  • Alexandre Skiba, a KU economics professor from Ukraine.
  • Erik Herron, director of the Center for Russian and East European Studies.

Herron helped monitor polling places during the now-disputed Nov. 21 election. The forum is free and open to the public.

Salvation Army to host community meal

A community meal will be held at noon today at the Salvation Army, 946 N.H.

The meal is open to the public and will include ham and turkey as well as several side dishes and pie, said Salvation Army director/pastor Rich Forney.

Forney said volunteers were needed to help set up and serve the meal and to clean up afterwards.

Event to feature decorated houses

Creatively designed and festively decorated gingerbread and graham cracker houses will be delivered Thursday evening to The Eldridge Hotel, 701 Mass.

More than 100 graham cracker houses from youths and more than 20 gingerbread houses from adults are expected for the 10th annual Eldridge Hotel Gingerbread Festival & Auction to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County.

Children, teens and adults will bring their handmade creations from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The graham cracker winners from three youth divisions and all adult entries will be auctioned Tuesday.
