Poor planning

To the editor:

Today’s J-W article, plus a recent letter to the editor expressing upset at the early August start of school do question administrative sense of timing. Problems mentioned: transport, weather, utility costs, families and children’s adapting to routines. One rather unbelievable result of the early August start is bad timing in boarding up Cordley School windows to install new windows, for Pete’s sake! One wondered if the school was closed.

Can one begin to imagine the disruption, classes emptied to double up during the remodeling, teachers trying to teach youngsters (some in their first time school experience), the dislocation for meals, recess and gym? What a mess for staff, pupils and their families. This lack of foresight and planning ranks with street repair at the advent of Kansas University’s resumption of fall classes.

Please! Everyone at Cordley School deserves a medal including the students. Brickbats to whomever shows such lack of wise planning.
