Greek play among weekend offerings

KU production features students who honed craft in Greece

They did it in Greece. Now students who participated in the KU Summer Theatre program in the Mediterranean country are restaging “Eumenides” in Lawrence.

A 10-member cast wraps up its second night of performances at 7:30 p.m. today at the Inge Theatre in Murphy Hall. Aeschylus’ “Eumenides” is a trilogy using the story of Agamemnon’s murder at the hands of his wife and her subsequent murder by her son, Orestes, as its source.

The production was generated during five weeks the students spent living, studying and rehearsing in an elementary school in the Greek village of Katohi. The culmination of the work and study was a presentation of “Eumenides” at the nearby Ancient Theatre of Oiniades.

A discussion will be offered after each performance of “Eumenides.” Tickets, which are $5, can be purchased by calling 864-3982.
