Couldn’t think?

To the editor:

I believe Josh Powers missed the point of my Aug. 12 letter.

I understand that John Kerry was merely a senator on Sept. 11, 2001, and that he could not have taken action even if he had wanted to. My point was that Kerry admitted last month on “Larry King Live” that he was unable to think for at least 42 minutes after the second tower was hit. If Kerry had been president on Sept. 11, he would have had a different title and responsibilities, but he would have been the same man with the same capacity for thought.

Even today Kerry appears unable to tell us what he would have done during the seven minutes President Bush stayed in the classroom. Kerry was asked earlier this month, “Specifically, what would you have done if you had been caught in a Florida classroom on Sept. 11, 2001?”

“Had my top aide whispered in my ear, ‘America is under attack,’ I would have told those kids very politely and nicely that the president of the United States had something he needed to attend to,” Kerry replied.

With all due respect, that’s not very specific.

Powers writes that the president “was in a position to immediately respond to the attacks in any number of ways.” However, like Kerry and others who employ the “seven minute” cheap shot, he fails to offer specifics. Until they can come up with specifics, perhaps they should refrain from parroting Michael Moore and Bill Maher.
