A contradiction

To the editor:

I was extremely confused when I read the article in the Aug. 10 Journal-World about Terry Nichols’ sentencing for his role in the Oklahoma City bombing. He was convicted on 161 counts of first-degree murder. The charges were for “160 victims and one victim’s fetus.” Please tell me someone else sees the contradiction in this statement. A man was convicted of first-degree murder for killing an unborn child while this same event happens legally every day? You have to be kidding me.

Don’t get me wrong, he should have been convicted for that murder just as he was convicted for the other 160 murders; I just don’t understand how our legal system can contradict itself this way. And what’s worse, very few people have a problem with it.
