911 system monthly fee approved
Douglas County residents with land-line phones will continue to spend 75 cents a month to keep their 911 system running.
Douglas County Commissioners today extended the monthly fee for another year.
Money collected is spent on equipment and services necessary to get people emergency assistance when they call the county’s dispatch center using 911.
This year, the fee is expected to generate about $400,000.
The county also will get a financing boost this year from users of wireless phones, who started paying 50 cents a month July 1.
The wireless fees will help finance a system that gives dispatchers the ability to pinpoint the locations of people calling 911 from wireless phones.
