Insulted resident

To the editor:

A few words for Rush Limbaugh:

In your not-so-flattering recent remarks about my home town of Lawrence, Kan., you’re quoted as saying “I know Lawrence.”

That’s great! I’ve been looking for somebody to help break the political gridlock that has held up the South Lawrence Trafficway. You know all about that, right?

Perhaps we can talk about the city’s new smoking ban. I’m sure you’ll be 100 percent informed and ready to debate, right?

You have no idea, do you? That’s my point. Just because you stopped by for a visit with Mr. Brett some 30 years ago doesn’t mean you “know” anything. Why were you visiting anyway? In your own words we’re a town of boring liberals, why come here, Rush?

You go on, and I quote, “The teachers date their students.” You’re, of course, speaking of Kansas University. Now, other than being a graduate and a neighbor, I’m not deeply affiliated with KU. I do know some law students, however, that might be very interested in a conversation about slander.

It’s real simple, Rush. You’ve insulted me and my neighbors. You took the local buzz and conversation about the presidential campaign trail, and put your hateful spin on it. I’ve lived here more than 30 years and can safely say you know nothing of which you speak. You owe myself, this city and KU an apology.

I’ll be waiting.

Fred R. Whitehead III,

Lawrence
