Summer chill continues

Light showers rolled through the Lawrence area this morning, but the rain chances are over for the rest of the day, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“Don’t worry about taking that umbrella,” Schack said. “We won’t see any rain through the weekend.”

Overnight the temperature dropped to 54, tying the old record for this date set in 1964.

“The summer chill continues today,” Schack said. Temperatures were expected to be 68 by noon, topping out today at 74 by 4 p.m., she said. The normal high temperature for this time of year is 89. This morning’s cloudy skies were expected to become clearer this afternoon

Tonight, the low temperature is expected to dip to 52 degrees. A little warmer weather is expected on Saturday, with the temperature reaching 77 under mostly sunny skies, Schack said.

Sunday’s morning low will be 56, reaching a high of 82 by late afternoon under sunny skies.

Schack said that some scattered thunderstorm activity was possible in the area starting Monday morning, extending through the middle of next week. Her forecast shows the afternoon temperatures will reach into the upper 80s through Wednesday.
