Police arrest transient for threat to 12-year-old
A 12-year-old Lawrence boy was threatened by two transients at a downtown bus stop, police reported.
Police spokesman Sgt. Dan Ward said the incident happened just before 5:30 p.m. Monday as the child was downtown with his older brother.
The boy was sitting on a bench at the bus stop near Ninth and Massachusetts. Ward said that’s when the two transients made “threatening comments and gestures” toward the child.
The boy ran to a nearby store and called police for help.
Officers arrested a 38-year-old man who was still in the area when they arrived. Police were not able to locate the other transient allegedly involved.
