Glass 13th after Day 1

? Lawrence’s Bob Glass knocked down 1,731 pins in eight games and was in 13th place after the first round of qualifying in the PBA Senior St. Petersburg/Clearwater Open at Seminole Lanes.

Jeff Bellinger, of Columbia, S.C., led with 1,948. Bellinger opened up his set strong, shooting 224, 289 and 236 to start his day. After a low game of 217, Bellinger erupted for games of 258, 232 and 255 and averaged 243.50.

Bellinger holds a 94-pin lead on Gary Hiday, of Indianapolis, who shot 1,854. Hiday won his first career Senior Tour event at the 2004 PBA Senior Clarksville Open.

The 135-man field will return at 8 this morning to roll another eight games of qualifying before the field is cut to the top 32 for match play. Match play is a best-of-five format where bowlers are ranked based on the past 10 PBA Senior Tour events.

The best-of-three finals will be Wednesday to determine the winner of the $8,000 first-place prize.
