Carpetbagger

To the editor:

Well, I’ll be gol-durned. Politics just keeps getting weirder, don’t it?

I read the article in Sunday’s Journal-World by Elizabeth Edwards (wife of vice presidential candidate John Edwards) about her memorable experience here in Lawrence and I got to thinking about the Lawrence-North Carolina connections and I began to wonder maybe, if Roy Williams had stayed, Kansas would have gone Democratic this November for the first time since Lyndon Johnson.

And then I turned on the TV and saw that Alan Keyes was about to pull a Hillary Clinton (or Bobby Kennedy, if you’re old enough to remember)! Who could have imagined that the Republicans would stoop to carpet-bagging?

Ruth Hull,
