After voting canvasses in Wyandotte and Douglas counties today, Kris Kobach leads Adam Taff by 81 votes in the Republican primary for the 3rd District U.S. House of Representatives nomination.

Going into the day, Kobach led by 87 votes. Taff had a net gain of five votes from provisional ballots counted in Wyandotte County and a net gain of one vote in Douglas County.

Johnson County will canvass its election results Monday.

“We were pleased,” Taff said. “We thought it was likely we might actually lose some ground in Wyandotte County and possibly Douglas County. The fact we gained votes was a nice turn of events for us.”

But Kobach supporters remained confident.

“You always want to go up, but we’re still pleased with where we are,” said Christian Morgan, Kobach’s finance director.

The winner of the race will face U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore, D-Lenexa.
