Two injured in four-vehicle accident
A Lawrence man who was riding a motorcycle was among two people who suffered injuries in a four-vehicle accident this morning north of Lawrence on U.S. Highway 24-40, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
John D. Hinman, 47, was transported by Lifestar helicopter to KU Medical Center.

Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers look over the scene of a four-vehicle accident about 7:30 a.m. today at the intersection of U.S. 24-40 and E1500 Road just north of Lawrence. Two people were injured.
The patrol said Tahirih G. Mullen, 43, Leavenworth, was also injured. Mullen was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released, according to a hospital representative.
State troopers reported that the accident occurred about 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 24-40 and Douglas County Road E1500, north of Lawrence.
A 2001 International truck driven by Craig L. Cook, 45, St. Joseph, Mo., and a 1998 Subaru driven by Mullen were on U.S. 24-40 and were stopped in the westbound lane, waiting for traffic to turn south on E1500 Road, when the accident occurred.
A 1997 Chevrolet pickup driven by James H. Wallace, Leavenworth, 45, struck Mullen’s car from the rear, causing her car to lurch forward and strike Cook’s truck in the rear.
Then, the back of Mullen’s car swerved into the eastbound lane, striking Hinman’s motorcycle.
Wallace and Cook were not injured.
