Cooler weather continues

It might be a good day to turn off the air conditioner or even grab a sweater. Lawrence is getting some unusually cool weather for this time of year, with temperatures reaching only into the low 80s today.

“We do remain below average today,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. The average is 91 for this time of year, Schack said.

This temperature was in the mid 60s this morning and was expected to climb to 75 by noon and to 81 by 4 p.m., she said. Winds will be from the northwest, 10-15 mph under sunny skies.

“Overnight the low temperatures continue,” Schack said. By Friday morning, the temperature will bottom out at 57 degrees, which will come close to the record low of 55 for Friday’s date, she said.

“The weekend does have a little bit warmer temperatures,” she said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 61, with the high climbing to 85.

Sunday will be a bit warmer, with the low starting at 67 and climbing to 87, with a chance for rain, she said.

The National Weather Service predicts a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms for Sunday, a 40 percent chance Sunday night and a 40 percent chance on Monday .
