Police seize 190 pounds of pot

Police say they’ve intercepted one of the biggest shipments of marijuana in the history of the city-county Drug Enforcement Unit.

Acting on a tip Monday, police caught a California man at a local commercial-shipping business coming to pick up a 190-pound load of pot worth an estimated $240,000 street value. The drugs, packaged in one-pound bricks, had been shipped to Lawrence from Long Beach, Calif., disguised as a load of T-shirts.

They arrested the 35-year-old man and booked him into the Douglas County Jail. Police said it appeared he is a Mexican national and is being held by the INS.
