Firefighters battle Park 25 blaze

Firefighters continued battling a blaze into the early afternoon that had broken out this morning at a maintenance and storage shed at Park 25 Apartments in southern Lawrence.

A firefighter from Lawrence/Douglas County Fire & Medical douses water today on a unit at Park 25 Apartments, 2405 W. 25th St. A maintenance shop attached to the apartments caught fire Tuesday morning, and flames spread to at least two units.

The fire, which was burning near some adjacent apartments, started about 11 a.m. at the complex, located at 2401 W. 25th St.

There were no injuries reported.

“When we came outside we could hear the paint cans popping,” said Aaron Allison, a resident who watched the flames as personnel from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical battled the fire.

Earlier, The fire was seen by a maintenance worker who said he thought it at the back of the shed and worked its way to the inside. He ran over to the apartment office and told them to contact the fire department. Then he and an apartment manager began knocking on doors and warning residents to get out.

Some of the apartments that were adjacent to the shed sustained damage from the fire.
