Pharmacy catches prescription fraud
Baldwin — A woman suspected of fraudulently obtaining a prescription at a pharmacy four previous times was arrested Saturday when she tried it a fifth time, Baldwin Police said.
Employees at Truecare Pharmacy, 410 Ames, recognized the woman and called police when she allegedly tried to use a forged prescription to obtain methadone, Police Chief Mike McKenna said. Forged prescriptions in the earlier incidents also were for methadone, McKenna said. They were obtained before the forgery was discovered.
The 26-year-old woman, who has lived in Lawrence and Ottawa, was taken to the Douglas County Jail and then released on $1,500 bond. Charges are pending and the woman is to appear in Douglas County District Court for possible charges on Aug. 20.
Methadone is a synthetic narcotic used in the treatment of heroin addiction.
