Lawrence Memorial Hospital needs volunteers interested in being a part of the health-care team in several areas. Oncology volunteers pamper patients, support the staff, and must be caring and consistent. Available shifts include Wednesday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon or Monday, Wednesday or Friday afternoons. Surgery waiting room volunteers act as a liaison between patients and their families. These volunteers should enjoy being with people, and available to volunteer every other Tuesday morning or every other Friday morning.

Immediate volunteer needs

  • The Lawrence Transit System will make enhancements to existing routes, schedules and fares beginning Aug. 9. The Lawrence Transit System needs volunteers to help distribute the new Guide to Ride route maps to local retailers, community centers, senior centers and other areas of community interest on Thursday and Friday, with some flexibility available for scheduling.   • ECKAN will distribute free school supplies for low-income families through Aug. 13. Volunteers are needed to help families complete their applications, assist with organizing and sorting supplies, and bag the supplies together for different grade levels and families. To volunteer or to donate supplies or money for more school supplies, contact ECKAN at 841-3357.
  • Volunteers are needed at the LMH South GI Lab at Clinton Parkway and Kasold Drive. Volunteers in this area will assist with preparing rooms between patients, patient transportation and assisting the nurses on Friday mornings. This is a busy environment and a great place for volunteers who like to keep busy. For more information call 840-3141.
  • Douglas County Senior Meals needs volunteer meal delivery drivers in Lawrence. Volunteers can choose a day Monday through Friday to deliver meals to senior citizens at home during lunch time.
