Misguided stand

To the editor:

At the last City Commission meeting, the commissioners revealed their narrow view of rights. A vocal constituency has taken the ears of our commissioners. As a result, at this meeting, they took a misguided stand against the Patriot Act, claiming to protect the rights of the individual and at the same meeting attempted to tell restaurant owners they do not have the right to control their own places of business.

This commission has had an anti-business stand since the last election. The commission has found favor in the eyes of this constituency that carried them into elected office by being hostile to local businesses. The commission’s vote against the Patriot Act was completely meaningless and a waste of time but kept them in the good graces of their supporters. This commission should represent and consider the rights of all our citizens. Lawrence needs leadership that works for the greater good, not the good of the vocal few.
