Scattered thunderstorms expected
Lawrence might get a few sprinkles this morning. But the best chances for rain comes tonight and Friday, says Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.
A storm system was moving through southern and eastern Douglas County this morning, which could bring some light rain to Eudora and even a few drops to Lawrence by mid-morning, Sayers said.
“It will be barely enough to wet the roadway,” he said.
The best chance for rain comes after 3 p.m., with a 30 to 40 percent chance of scattered thundershowers expected as another storm rolls in from the west, Sayers said.
The high today is expected to be 74, with the low dropping to 58 overnight. Thunderstorms are expected overnight and Friday morning.
Winds were gusting up to nearly 50 mph Wednesday in the Lawrence area, downing some power lines, causing power outages, snapping tree limbs and causing at least one fire (See story). They will be in the 10 to 20 mph range today, Sayers said.
“It’s a breezy day, but nothing like we had yesterday,” he said.
Friday’s high will be 68. There’s also a chance for more rounds of thunderstorms Friday afternoon and Friday night.
“I do expect severe weather around the area tomorrow evening,” Sayers said.
Saturday’s morning low will be 49, with a high of 61 under cloudy skies. The clouds begin to break up on Sunday, with the low starting at 39 and rising to a high of 61.
Warmer weather returns next week, with a high of 67 on Monday and a high of 77 on Tuesday.
