Get to work

To the editor:

Rep. Frank Miller took time out of his busy schedule to ask why Clinton should make the first speech at the Dole center.

He thinks that people who lie and dodge the draft should be disqualified from speaking there.

If people who don’t lie are the only ones who can speak at the Dole center, I guess no politicians will be speaking there. At least no one died when Clinton lied. One can’t say that about the present regime.

Draft dodging is Rep. Miller’s other complaint. In my opinion, someone who avoids killing people instead of blithely massacring others by orders of old, white, government men, shows great courage.

If one follows the classic understanding of “hero” as defined by Joseph Campbell, both George Sr. and Mr. Clinton chose the hero path, although on opposing sides.

Instead of whining about who is speaking at KU, get your work done, Rep. Miller.

Kansas representatives are paid $78.75 per day (taxable) plus $86 per day (nontaxable!) for a total of $164.75 EVERY DAY to work for us, and now the politicians need to come back to Topeka to finish up the session.

Start with finishing the education budget. I’m horrified that the schools are unable to plan for the next year because of the irresponsible manner in which the Legislature disobeys its own deadlines.

Now get to work, and if Kansas is so pitifully poor, maybe the politicians can be heroes and finish up the session without any pay.
