To the editor:

I’m pleased that David Howard wrote you again (Public Forum, April 23) in favor of bringing the Metropolitan Opera Saturday afternoon broadcasts back to KANU.

I would disagree with him on just one point: The signal on KXTR-AM, which commendably does still carry these broadcasts, is definitely not “listenable” in my area of Lawrence. In fact it’s awful, just about unbearable.

It’s a disgrace that our public FM radio station, serving eastern Kansas and western Missouri from this “city of the arts,” has not heeded repeated appeals from loyal listeners to do the right thing and restore these wonderful broadcasts to its schedule, whereas a number of small-town stations elsewhere in the state continue to put them on the air.
