Disabled Kansans lobby for more funding

? Several hundred Kansans with disabilities and advocates rallied today outside the Capitol for more funding for social services.

“We’re asking for more money to take care of the waiting lists and restore cuts that were made in 2002,” said Kathy Lobb of Lawrence, who works with the Self Advocates Coalition of Kansas.

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius attended the rally and helped plant a tree to symbolize the group’s efforts.

Ralliers urged lawmakers to approve increases in funding for family services, and programs for children with disabilities.

They also called for an increase in the wage reimbursement for community care workers.
