Act supported
To the editor:
So, the Lawrence City Commission thinks it speaks for all the citizens in Lawrence by putting us all on record supporting the resolution against the Patriot Act. I did not see a chance to vote on this. I wonder how democratic that is!
Some of us don’t think that airplanes being flown into buildings, trains being blown up and weapons of mass destruction being let loose in big cities are options we want to face. This act is highly regulated, making it nearly impossible for abuses to occur.
Only the crazies who are willing to give their life in order to reach paradise and the 1,000 virgins have anything to worry about. Oh, and KU might have a harder time recruiting students from the Middle East who have to pass security checks. Maybe the next time the city wishes to speak for the rest of us, they should get our opinion first! After all, I worry more about taxation and laws being made without representation than I do someone checking which books I check out of the library!
Kinda Skea,
Lawrence
