Environmental award goes to KU student
A Kansas University junior from Overland Park has been selected for a $5,000 Morris K. Udall scholarship.
Trisha Shrum, who is majoring in biology and environmental studies, was one of 80 students to win the scholarships, which are targeted for students planning careers in fields related to the environment and for American Indians and Alaska natives seeking careers related to health care or tribal policy.
More than 500 students nationwide competed for the scholarships.
Shrum, the 10th KU student to win a Udall scholarship since 1998, plans to be a policy adviser on environmental issues. She is president of KU Environs and has completed research using amphibians as indicators of the environment’s health.
