Community to help clean up lakeside today

Volunteers will descend on Clinton Lake today for the 21st Annual Clinton Lake Cleanup. The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and begins in Overlook Park at the north end of Clinton Dam.

More than 8,500 volunteers have donated their time in the past 20 years. Volunteers will help pick up trash around the lake and can also pick up information on recycling, watch live animal displays and participate in other environmental activities. A free lunch will be provided to all volunteers.

The event is scheduled rain or shine, but in the event of severe weather, call the Clinton Lake Project Office at 843-7665, or listen to KLWN 1320 AM for details.

More rain in forecast

Reports of rainfall around Lawrence varied slightly Friday evening.

The National Weather Service reported .17 inches of rain at the Lawrence Municipal Airport through 9 p.m.

In west Lawrence, Skyhawk Ken Blair recorded 0.21 inches of rain through 9:30 p.m.

Today is likely to bring thunderstorms.
