Sloan seeks re-election to Kansas House seat

Rep. Tom Sloan is running for a sixth term in the Kansas House of Representatives.

Sloan, R-Lawrence, is the first to file as a candidate for his 45th District seat, which represents much of western Lawrence and northwest Douglas County, including Lecompton.

The farmer and strategic planner had considered making a run for the Kansas Senate. But he decided his seniority, experience and contacts as a representative would be too valuable to sacrifice by making a move to unseat Sen. Mark Buhler, R-Lawrence.

Sloan, 58, is chairman of the House Higher Education Committee, and is a member of the House Utilities Committee. He has organized visits to Lawrence by the chairmen of the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The general election is Nov. 2.
