Lawrence district names new Schwegler, N.Y. principals

Two small-town Kansas administrators will fill principal vacancies at Lawrence elementary schools, district officials announced Tuesday.

Lawrence administrators said they had hired Angelique Kobler, principal at Solomon Elementary School, as principal of Schwegler School. They also have hired Nancy DeGarmo, K-8 principal and transportation director for Lyndon public schools, as principal of New York School.

Kobler will replace David Theilen, who is resigning after two years as principal, and DeGarmo will replace Sharen Steele, who is retiring after 15 years at that position.

Kobler has served as principal for the Solomon school, which includes grades K-6, since 2002. Solomon is a town of about 1,100 near Salina.

She previously taught Spanish and art in Hill City for eight years. She has a bachelor’s degree in graphic arts from Kansas State University and a bachelor’s in art education and master’s in education administration from Fort Hays State University.

She also has served as a Spanish instructor at Colby Community College and as an adjunct professor at FHSU.

DeGarmo has worked in Lyndon, a town of about 1,050 south of Topeka, since 2001. She previously was an elementary principal in Herington for two years and also has taught in Hastings, Neb., and in Lawrence, Neb.

She has a bachelor’s degree from Hastings College in Nebraska and a master’s in educational administration from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Schwegler School, 2201 Ousdahl Road, serves 419 students. New York School, 936 N.Y., serves 142 students.
