Burglaries and thefts reported
- An 84-year-old woman reported Wednesday that someone had taken items between 8:30 a.m. April 7 and 4 p.m. Wednesday from her home in the 2400 block of Melrose Lane. Taken were a diamond engagement ring, a diamond wedding ring and currency, all together valued at $1,041, Lawrence Police reported.
- A 51-year-old Lawrence man reported Wednesday that someone had taken stereo equipment and CDs between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 6:30 a.m. Wednesday from his car parked in the 1100 block of West 25th Street. Missing and damaged items totaled $1,840, Lawrence police reported.
- A 23-year-old De Soto man reported Thursday that his 1997 black Chevrolet Blazer had been taken from the 3700 block of Elizabeth Court. The vehicle was valued at $6,000.
- A 38-year-old Wisconsin Dells, Wis., man reported that someone had taken several items from his vehicle between 4 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Kasold Drive. The items, valued at $2,365, included 80 CDs, a Motorola two-way radio and more than 200 muscle relaxers and narcotic pain killers.
- A 66-year-old Lawrence woman reported that someone had used her credit card to charge $1,218.60 in items, which included a $400 Wal-Mart gift card.
Injury accidents
- Baldwin resident Betty Holder, 73, and her 76-year-old husband, George, both of Baldwin, were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and released after the car they were in was involved in an accident at 6:08 p.m. Wednesday near Sixth and Wisconsin streets. Police reports said a 1998 BMW was headed northbound on Wisconsin Street from a stop sign making a left turn onto Sixth Street. A 2000 Ford Focus, driven eastbound on Sixth Street by George Holder struck the BMW, driven by Matthew J. Windle, 31, Lawrence.
- At 10:08 p.m. Wednesday, a vehicle headed eastbound in the 1900 block of West 25th Street clipped a parked vehicle before swerving into the curb and then a tree at a residence. The driver, Todd Stuke, 27, Lawrence, was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.
