STILWELL ? Free State High’s track and field team had a spectacular showing at the Blue Valley Relays on Saturday, with the girls winning the eight-team meet and the boys taking fourth.

Among the highlights were Alysha Valencia and Danny Schneider, both distance runners who were named boys and girls outstanding performer for the meet.

The girls finished with 166 points, the most ever in the 29-year history of the Blue Valley Relays.

The boys finished with 86 points, just 28 behind champion Shawnee Mission South.

“It rained the entire meet,” FSHS coach Steve Heffernan said. “It wasn’t a nice day, and our kids stayed with it from start to finish.”
