CASA fund-raiser puts playhouse up for grabs

Donating to the Douglas County Court Appointed Special Advocate’s Casa 4 CASA fund-raiser will give participants a chance to win a playhouse.

The 13th annual event will be April 24-May 2. The fund-raiser aims to expand and diversify the volunteer base of CASA, whose volunteers speak for abused and neglected children of Douglas County in court.

Jack Hope, of Jack Hope Design/Build, constructed the Japanese-inspired playhouse with the aid of Sven Alstrom, of Ecological Architecture. The house will be displayed at the following locations:

  • April 24-25: Hy-Vee, 4000 W. Sixth St.
  • April 26-29: Community Mercantile, 901 Iowa.
  • April 30-May 1: Wal-Mart, 3300 Iowa.
  • May 2: Douglas County Courthouse, 111 E. 11th St.

A donation of $1 buys one chance to win the playhouse. The winning ticket will be drawn at 5 p.m. May 2, in front of the courthouse. Participants need not be present to win.

The Douglas County CASA program is one of 23 in Kansas.
