Museum concern

To the editor:

Shouldn’t it be a matter of concern to the community that our Douglas County Historical Society board of directors has fired the Watkins Community Museum of History archivist — after 16 years of dedicated, professional service to our community?

Shouldn’t it be of concern to our community that the archivist had received a prestigious grant from the National Parks Service for an Underground Railroad exhibition and mural by local artist Wayne Wildcat to be a part of our 150th year commemoration of “Bleeding Kansas” and that the historical society board then reversed itself and turned down the grant its archivist had won — written entirely after hours on her own time because the board’s management committee had said there was no money for such efforts?

And then, shouldn’t it be of concern to us that this same museum board has since received $25,000 of our county taxes and hired a grant writer for the museum?
