Society honors three KU professors

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers recognized three Kansas University faculty members with awards.

James Barnes, Robert Foster and Charles Hoag, professors in the KU music and dance department, received the awards.

Governor among guests on KTWU shows today

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius will appear on this week’s edition of the TV news show “On The Record,” which will be shown at 12:30 p.m. today on KTWU, Sunflower Broadband Channel 11.

The governor, a Democrat, will discuss the next legislative session in the interview.

On “Kansas Week,” which will air at 8:30 p.m. today, the guests will be Lawrence Journal-World reporter Joel Mathis, Topeka Capital-Journal Statehouse reporter Chris Grenz and Emerson Lynn of the Iola Register. They will discuss Sunday liquor sales, public education and tax amnesty.

University sets exam

Kansas University has announced the following final examination:

Temporary parking OK’d at Med Center

Topeka — Kansas University Medical Center is making plans to provide 300 temporary parking spaces during construction of its $65 million biomedical research building.

The Kansas Board of Regents last week approved a lease agreement for the parking area and $237,000 in grading, drainage, gravel and lighting improvements at the Kansas City, Kan., site.

The lot is needed for faculty, staff and students who currently park where the new building will be constructed.

Class to teach children basic first aid skills

“First Aid for Little People,” a class for children 5 to 12 years of age, will be Thursday and Oct. 2.

The classes, offered by Lawrence Parks and Recreation, include lessons on how the body reacts to a cut, the importance of cleaning a wound and putting on a bandage, as well as staying calm during traumatic situations.

The class also will teach

children how to call 911 during an emergency.

Each child will receive a book and other supplies to take home after the class. The class costs $14 per child, and pre-registration is required.
