Jayhawk artists meet the public

Lawrence artist Katie Kring didn’t get many requests for her autograph Saturday, but her creation still was getting attention.

Kring and about 16 other artists spent a few hours sitting with their large, painted fiberglass Jayhawks, which have been on display at various locations throughout town forJayhawks on Parade Artists Day, part of the Jayhawks on Parade art exhibit.

Kring sat with her “Classic Jayhawk” outside the entrance to the Kansas Union on the Kansas University campus.

“People have been coming by wanting to get their pictures taken with it,” she said of the Jayhawk. “Kids will sit on the back by the tail.”

Kring also has a second Jayhawk that she painted on display outside Jayhawk Bookstore, 1420 Crescent Road.
