KU Open House events to give glimpse of campus

Kansas University’s annual Open House is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Parking is free in the lots south of Jayhawk Boulevard, and a shuttle bus will operate along Oread Avenue, Jayhawk Boulevard, 15th Street, Sunnyside Avenue, Irving Hill Road and Naismith Drive. It also will run to the Lied Center.

Here are some of the scheduled events. A full list can be found at www.openhouse.ku.edu.

8 a.m.-noon — University Theatre costume sale, Murphy Hall.

8 a.m.-3 p.m. — University Theatre garage sale, outside Murphy Hall.

10 a.m. and 11 a.m. — Chemistry magic show, room 1001, Malott Hall.

11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. — Guided tours of campus, starting from Kansas Union.

11 a.m. and noon — Admissions presentations, Visitor Center auditorium.

Noon — Spirit Squad, Wescoe Beach.

1 p.m. — Break-Fast Crew gymnastic hip-hop performance, Wescoe Beach.

Ongoing (10 a.m.-2 p.m.)

Adams Alumni Center — Photos with Whoosh, a Jayhawk on Parade; “peach basket” basketball; food and prize drawings; piñata bash at noon and 1 p.m.

Athletics — Jayhawk hot-air balloon; see newly painted Jayhawk floor, Allen Fieldhouse.

Dance — Free dance classes; dance sampler, rooms 240 and 242, Robinson Gymnasium.

Diversity Fiesta — Lawn outside Strong Hall.

Engineering — Displays in labs; formula race cars; concrete canoe; steel bridge competition entry; lighting displays, all at Learned Hall lawn; guided tours every 15 minutes, Eaton Hall.

Geology — “Antique” Rock Show, chance for experts to examine samples, between Lindley and Marvin halls.

International programs — “Passport to the World,” booths by international students, lawn between Lippincott and Dyche halls.
