Scattered showers expected as cooler temperatures move in

It won’t be a good day to wash your car — cloudy skies and scattered showers will bring sloppy, wet conditions.

“We’re not going to see heavy rains, just some light rains as the wet weather pushes off to the east,” said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

Lawrence will probably get less than a quarter of an inch of rain as the cold front moves in, Sayers said.

“We expect temperatures to drop into the upper 50s by this evening,” he said. “Tonight, the bottom drops out on the temperatures, with a low of 42. And 42 would tie a record low, set back in 1981.”

After the chilly start, Friday’s high will reach 70, with sunny skies in the afternoon. Saturday’s morning low will be 45.

“Saturday we’ll see some afternoon clouds, with temperatures warming up to 80 — great weather for football,” he said.

The temperature should be in the mid 70s at 6 p.m. Saturday in Lawrence when Kansas University plays Jacksonville State.

“The temperature will cool down to the mid 60s by the end of the game,” Sayers said.

The next good chance for rain will be on Sunday and Monday.

“We have another front passing through on Sunday. It’s going to give us a chance of rain. The best chance will be in the afternoon and evening,” he said.

Sunday’s morning low will be 54, with the high reaching 70.

The chance for rain will lingers into early Monday, he said. Monday’s morning low will be 50, with the high reaching 65.
