Police questions

To the editor:

The questions I would ask on today’s street are in response to the “Take a Stand” on public access to records by professor Ted Frederickson concerning police pursuit of Nam Ouk Cho, the person whose car struck and killed Mrs. Vellucci.

1. How do we keep people like Cho from getting behind the wheel?

2. How many reckless miles do you have to drive before an attempt is made to stop a crazy driver (is two counties enough) like Cho?

3. If convicted of the many charges, what punishment should he get?

4. Are you glad the police put their lives on the line every day to service us?

5. Do the police have all the tools needed to keep insane drivers off the street?

6. What does Cho’s arrest record show? (Records may not be used in court of crimes made before turning 18.)

I am a driver of a large bus, and Cho missed hitting me by about 15 feet at 15th Street and Kasold Drive. He was going at a high rate of speed and just got through the intersection. I did hear the police sirens before the police entered the intersection. I believe the records will be in the courtroom in the future. The chief is not hiding records but doing his best to keep this guy Cho from cutting short someone’s life in the future.
