To the editor:

I am not quite sure who lays out the format in your newspaper, but they must be associated with the comics section. I get the biggest laugh every morning when I open my paper.

One day, I read that Lew Perkins is the new sheriff in town and is about to gun down all of us middle-income supporters of the Kansas University athletic department and Williams Fund. Just below this letter is the announcement that we will have a new “lounge” for the basketball players, with computers, televisions and comfy furniture.

Then, in today’s paper, we read that the university has five new buildings that they have no funds to maintain. On the very next page is a piece about the groundbreaking for one more facility the university will be under-financed to maintain. Am I the only one laughing!

I just hope the other local papers do not pick up on these items, or we will be the brunt of jokes from Kansas City to Dodge City.
