Lawrence teen injured in I-35 accident
Malek Miles Jamil Azzeh, 19, Lawrence, was treated and released Sunday night from Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa after a two-vehicle accident. The wreck occurred at 7:35 p.m. on Interstate 35 just north of Ottawa.
Azzeh was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi south on I-35. Martha and Jack Christian, Ottawa, were in front of Azzeh in a 1995 Buick going slower than the Mitsubishi. Azzeh swerved into the inside lane to avoid the Buick and lost control of the vehicle, which struck the Buick.
Both cars spun off the highway and ended up in the north ditch. The Christians were not injured.
Police respond to stabbing report
Lawrence police responded to a report of a stabbing in the 400 block of Indiana just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday. The victim was transported to a hospital. No further details were available Sunday night.
Tour gives information on counseling services
Housing and Credit Counseling Inc. in Topeka will offer a one-hour program and tour to inform people about their services. Participants will learn about the organization and have the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback.
The free presentation will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Buchanan Center, 1195 SW Buchanan St. in Topeka. Those interested should reserve a space by calling (800) 383-0217, ext. 312.

Lecture series to start with human rights talk
A professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will discuss the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks during a presentation Sept. 16.
David Forsythe is the first speaker in the Peace and Conflict Studies lecture series at Kansas University. He’ll speak on “The United States, the Use of Force, and Human Rights: Before and After 9-11” at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 in Woodruff Auditorium in the Kansas Union.
Forsythe, a professor of political science, focuses his work in international human rights, international law and organization, American foreign policy and international relations. He also is the author of several books.
The lecture series was started as part of the new peace and conflict studies minor at KU.
WWII veteran to share knowledge of planes
G. Baley Price, professor emeritus of mathematics at Kansas University, will relate his war memories and American Air Museum experiences at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lawrence Public Library auditorium, 707 Vt.
Price conducted operations research for the United States 8th Air Force in Duxford, England, just north of London, from 1943 to 1945. He returned to Duxford a year ago for the rededication of a museum, which was built as a memorial to the 30,000 U.S. airmen who died flying from British bases during the war. It houses 50 aircraft.
Price will share pictures of the museum and ceremony and participate in a discussion moderated by Army Air Corps veteran Glee S. Smith Jr.
