Oil in his blood

To the editor:

The article and photograph in the Aug. 30 Journal-World about the oil rig was so special.

I was born on an oil lease, southeast of Wellsville in 1926. My dad maintained the oil rigs back then. Those oil rigs are still pumping. I’ll bet a lot of people did not realize that we had a lot of oil in that part of the country.

My dad purchased 160 acres, one and a half miles west of Wellsville, for $5,800 in 1942. He had three oil wells drilled on our property. He had oil in his blood until the day he parted this old world.
